Well boys and girls...

...the election is upon us. So far, during the entire campaign season, our comments section hasn't been visited by a single Ron Paul loon or Obamabot. A small victory to be sure, but I'll take it.

Here's hoping for a McCain win. After all, I would hate to wake up a year from now in Idaho, behind barbwire, growing potatoes, getting properly re-edumacated, and learning how to chant "Ohh-Bahhh-Mahhh, Ohh-Bahhh-Mahhh, Ohh-Bahhh-Mahhh... " with the correct level of enthusiasm.

I think some things are coming into focus, but, again, we're nearly a year out still and until actual voting begins it's impossible to know how things are going to break.

Personally, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we see a repeat of Illinois in 2004 where Obama just stays out of his own way and lets his opponents bump up against themselves, one another and him until they come apart. Of course, I'm not carrying it so far as to suggest that the Republican Party will turn to Alan Keyes in its moment of need. Not with Ron Paul available.

If Jerry Brown had entered the race in 1975, he more than likely would have been elected President in 1976. Think on then; think on now and remember that perception (MSM enhanced or not) is, almost always, what votes.

In less than 24 hours...

Barack Hussein Obama, currently the junior United States Senator from the State of Illinois and the 2008 Democratic Party nominee to be President of the United States of America, will be projected to have won "a majority of the whole number of electors appointed" and so will become the 44th President of the United States of America in the new year. It won't be close.

Question to self in the aftermath: Did the two men who have been elected President while calling Illinois home oversee the "best" campaign ever mounted on behalf of a Republican (Lincoln) and the "best" campaign ever mounted on behalf of a Democrat (Obama) since Illinois became a state?

...and a January 2005 conversation I had reason to think on more than once this year.

"After all..."

#1, living in Idaho, sounds perfectly fine to me and may be something to shoot for. (We're going to check out Coeur d'Alene over Christmas). #3, growing potatoes, may be a bit strenuous, but I'm willing to give it a try. No way on the other ones, though.

Well, I'm screwed since I wear glasses and am an Adjunct Professor.

What I fear most about the camp is the loud speaker blaring the wise words of the Dear Leader 24 hours a day, "Uhhh, ummm... now wait a minute... uhhhh, uhhh, um... "

Although some (especially the good commenters at JustOneMinute) have been making the case for a McCain victory, I think it's Obama's all the way. The turnout is expected to be massive, and that favors him. He is much better organized than Kerry was, and McCain is not as well organized as Bush was. Even without talking issues, I think those points tell enough of the story.

Wait till the reality of the taxes hits. I heard it from one Obama voter today. "There is only one thing I'm worried about and that is taxes..."

This will be very interesting.

Never saw anything like it as far as turnout goes. My voting place had more people there than I've seen in total for the 19 years I've been using it. I passed 3 other voting places in my morning rounds and there were people out the door.

The Righteous Mob we be in control by midnight tonight, EST. Don't step outta line.

I'll begin exercising my 2nd amendment rights tomorrow. Gotta move faster on that than the Righteous Mob does - my only hope is that they will be partying and hung over for a few days. To be honest though, I have no doubt the party apparatchiks have been "organizing" each community for weeks on end.

Big turnout in my precinct as well (a heavily dmocratic one). I was number 25 in line at 6:40 am (poolls open at 7 am).
