Absurd is Right

From the Telegraph :

President George W Bush told Europeans yesterday it was "absurd" to regard the United States as the greatest threat to world peace, as he concluded an EU-US summit overshadowed by disputes on Guantanamo Bay and trans-Atlantic trade barriers.

A visibly annoyed Mr Bush was responding to a journalist's question about opinion polls, asking why most Europeans believe the United States is a greater menace than Iran or North Korea.

"It's absurd, is my statement," Mr Bush snapped, taking the microphone ahead of the president of the European Commission in his haste to answer the question. "We'll defend ourselves, but we are working with our partners to spread peace and democracy around the world."

I am getting tired of these people. Anytime they want to carry the load for cleaning up after tsunamis and providing medicine for the sick in plagues and ending ethnic cleansings and dealing with mad mullahs wanting nukes and rebuilding war torn nations and keeping the world sea lanes open and protecting world trade and coming to the aid and rescue of people all over the world in time of need or loss....they can just step up.

45% of the Germans say the US is a greater threat to world peace than the Iranians or the North Koreans. I love getting lectures in world peace from Germans.

I do not know if it is arrogance, ignorance, envy or just plain hate that drives this kind of anti Americanism but I wish that people in this country would realize that while we fight amongst ourselves there are people in this world who would like nothing better than to see us all fail. In the words of the infamous Kos, screw em.

And do not underestimate ignorance.

But Bush was pissed. I saw part of this. That reporter just kind of shut up.

I just wish there was some way to weed out the most vitriolic among them as they start crowding the Customs area of JFK once the panic starts.

My thought has been that they should be forced to bear arms and, if young enough, spend several years in the military. No free rides.

I don;t know if I would trust these people in uniform or not. They would either run away or shoot you in the back. Or both.

Yeah, its definitely envy, coupled with the knowledge that their great grandfathers pissed it all away on the Western Front in WWI.

Europe still. hasn't. gotten. over. losing. control. of. the. world.

I don't think they ever will.

It is largely envy, but you cannot underestimate how much misinformation about America is conveyed by the foreign press.
